Timed Entry + Bear Lake Road

Rocky Mountain National Park Timed Entry

Are you interested in visiting Bear Lake, Sprague Lake, Moraine Park, or hiking on any trails beginning at Glacier Gorge Trailhead or other destinations located along Bear Lake Road? Then this is the option for you!

Rocky Mountain National Park is implementing a timed entry permit reservation system from May 24 through October 20, 2024. Timed entry reservations are required to enter all areas of Rocky Mountain Nationa Park during certain hours of the day.

There are two different reservation options available to choose from: Timed Entry or Timed Entry + Bear Lake Road

Timed Entry + Bear Lake Road:

Timed Entry + Bear Lake Road reservations are best for visitors interested in visiting any destinations located along the Bear Lake Road Corridor, including Bear Lake, Moraine Park, Sprague Lake, and Glacier Gorge. With a Timed Entry + Bear Lake Road reservatin, you also have access to visit all other areas of Rocky Mountain National Park.

Timed Entry + Bear Lake Road reservations are required to enter the Bear Lake Road Corridor between the hours of 5 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Timed entry reservations help to spread visitor use out throughout the day and throughout the park.

Timed Entry + Bear Lake Road reservation holders must enter Rocky Mountain National Park using one of the main entrances (Beaver Meadows, Fall River, or Grand Lake), as well as enter the Bear Lake Road Corridor within their designated 2-hour reservation window. Once you have entered the main area of the park, as well as the Bear Lake Road Corridor, reservation holders can stay as long as they choose. There are no set times for departure. When traveling from the west side of the park, it is best to proceed directly to Bear Lake Road. Due to the popularity of Bear Lake Road and to help reduce congestion within the corridor, if you miss your 2-hour designated reservation window, you will be asked to come back after 2 p.m.

If you choose to leave the Bear Lake Road Corridor for any reason and wish to return later in the day, re-entry to Bear Lake Road is allowed after 2 p.m. If you need to exit the park and re-enter, re-entry is allowed through the Beaver Meadows, Fall River or Grand Lake Entrances at any time of the day.

How Many Timed Entry Permits Do I Need Per Vehicle?

One timed entry permit is required per vehicle (not per person). The person who makes the reservation must be present inside the vehicle. Upon arrival, the reservation holder must have a copy of their timed entry permit reservation confirmation and their valid photo ID.
