EAST ELK CREEK GROUP CAMPSITE (CO), Curecanti National Recreation Area, CODescriptionCurecanti National Recreation Area is situated between Montrose and Gunnison, Colorado. East Elk Creek Group Campground is located on the north side of Highway 50 approximately 17 miles west of Gunnison and 1/2 mile west of Elk Creek. Altitude is 7800'. This is a semi-arid shrub land with vast expanses of sagebrush. Cell phone coverage is limited. Showers and marina are approximately 1 mile away. This is a group camping site for up to 50 people located near Blue Mesa Lake. More Information: Ride through the upper Black Canyon on a 42 passenger pontoon boat. The Morrow Point Boat Tour is a guided 1 1/2 hour trip that runs daily from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Reservations are required and walk-ons are not permitted. Alerts and Important InformationReservable season for 2010 is May 21st - September 30th. Reservations must be made at least 3 days in advance. For reservations outside this window or for further information, please call 970-641-2337 ext. 205 All watercraft on Blue Mesa Reservoir are required to be certified as Zebra and Quagga Mussel free. A MANDATORY inspection is required before launching your watercraft. Please visit www.nps.gov/cure for more information.
