LAKE FORK CAMPGROUND (CO), Curecanti National Recreation Area, CO

Description

Curecanti National Recreation Area is situated between Montrose and Gunnison, Colorado. Lake Fork Campground is located just off Highway 50 near Blue Mesa Dam, approximately 37 miles east of Montrose and 28 miles west of Gunnison. Altitude is 7800'. This a semi-arid shrub land with vast expanses of sagebrush. Evening programs are provided during the summer season. Cell phone use is available. All boats require a Curecanti NRA boat permit.

More Information: Ride through the upper Black Canyon on a 42 passenger pontoon boat. The Morrow Point Boat Tour is a guided 1 1/2 hour trip that runs daily from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Reservations are required and walk-ons are not permitted. Please call 970-641-2337 ext. 205 to make reservations and for more information.

Alerts and Important Information

Campground is open from approximately mid April to the end of November, depending on the weather. Reservable season for 2010 is May 21st - September 11th for those sites that are reservable. Reservations must be made at least 3 days in advance. During the reservation season, other campsites are available on a "first come/first served" basis. Campsites are also available on a "first come/first served" basis outside the reservation season. Camping in the reserved sites is limited to 14 consecutive nights during a 30 day period. All other sites are limited to a visit of 30 consecutive days. Registered sites must be occupied, meaning the site has to be used or slept in once within a 12-hour period, or the site can be forfeited.

All watercraft on Blue Mesa Reservoir are required to be certified as Zebra and Quagga Mussel free. A MANDATORY inspection is required before launcing your watercraft. Please visit www.nps.gov/cure for more information.
