Alerts and Important InformationRESERVATIONS REQUIRED ONLY FOR GROUPS OF 5 - 20 PEOPLE. CAMPSITES FOR 1 - 4 PEOPLE ARE AVAILABLE ON-SITE WITH NO RESERVATION NEEDED. SOUTH MANITOU ISLAND IS ACCESSIBLE ONLY BY PRIVATE BOAT OR PASSENGER FERRY. If visiting before June 15th or after Labor Day, contact Manitou Island Transit (231-256-9061) for ferry availability BEFORE making your camping reservation. South Manitou Island also has three backcountry campgrounds with individual sites sites available on a first-come, first-served basis. This is backcountry camping - all gear must be carried to your campsite - no wheeled vehicles - no pets. Be prepared for diverse weather conditions which may cause ferry delays. Drinking water available at Village, Bay and Weather station campgrounds. Tent camping only. Maximum of 10 tents allowed. No fireworks, firearms or weapons allowed.No pets are allowed at any South Manitou Group Sites. No electricity. Entrance pass required per vehicle, $10 park pass or $20 annual pass: can be obtained at the Passenger Ferry Terminal in Leland, Visitor Center in Empire, Platte River and D.H.
