Mcnary and Umatilla Refuge Hunt Permit Pass

Mcnary National Wildlife Refuge

Waterfowl hunting at McNary and Umatilla National Wildlife Refuges attracts hunters from across the country. The FWS provides numerous and varied hunting opportunities, ranging from seven day per week hunting to restricted days and hours to reserved blinds for disabled hunters.

One of the more popular opportunities provided is controlled, limited-day hunts at McNary and Umatilla on the Fee Hunting Area and McCormack Units, respectively. These hunts, limited to a certain number of hunters, are controlled through a Check Station and the charging of a day-use fee. The daily fee is $14, with hunters holding Access, Senior, or America the Beautiful passes receiving a 50% discount. Daily passes may be purchased onsite.

Hunters may purchase a season pass, good for both refuges, online in advance. The pass is highly popular, especially with hunters that are within easy driving distance of either/both refuges. The total cost for a standard Season Pass is $96. The total cost for hunters holding Access, Senior, or America the Beautiful passes is $48. Please be careful to select the appropriate pass type during checkout.

Additional hunting details are available at www.fws.gov/mcriver/regulations/ .

Both fee hunting areas (Fee Hunting Area on McNary, McCormack Unit on Umatilla) are open during the main waterfowl hunting season. Additionally, the Fee Hunting Area is open for the late season white goose hunt, although there is no fee charged.

The fee units are open Wednesdays, Saturdays, Sundays, Thanksgiving, and New Year's Day. Each is closed for a special veterans hunt on Veteran's Day (November 11) and a Youth Hunt on November 18.

All hunters must check in and out of the respective Check Station.

A preseason lottery provides guaranteed spaces to those receiving a draw for each hunting day. An onsite lottery is conducted each morning for standby hunters picking up no-shows.

Each unit reopens for an afternoon hunt, and the passes are good for those hunts, as well.
