Whiskey Creek Group Picnic Area (Whiskeytown NRA), Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, CA

Description

Northern California, 13 miles west of Redding, and 3 hours north of Sacramento. This is a Day-use area. There is no overnight camping allowed.

Alerts and Important Information

  • Site G01 is located adjacent to the beach and next to the parking area. Sites G02 and G03 are located up the hill.
  • Area hours are from 9 am to 9 pm. Park rangers clear the area at 9 pm and lock the gate.
  • No pets allowed.
  • Alcoholic beverages are prohibited.
  • No drinking water or electricity.
  • All groups holding a reservation must share the beach area.
  • Vehicles parked any place other than Whiskey Creek Group Picnic area parking lot are required to display a $5 day use pass. Weekly use pass costs $10, annual pass costs $25. Golden Age, Access, and Senior passes accepted in lieu of park use pass.
  • Vehicles prohibited in picnic area except to load and unload equipment. All vehicles must be removed to dirt parking lot.
  • On day of arrival, gate to area will be closed but unlocked. Do not lock the gate, as only a park employee can open it.
  • Boats may be launched at Whiskey Creek Launch Ramp and moored at the picnic area.
  • No firearms or fireworks.
  • No open or ground fires allowed.
  • Personal watercraft is prohibited on Whiskeytown Lake. Ban includes brand names such as Jetskis, Seadoos, and Wave Runners.

    Take state route 299 west from Interstate 5, go west through the city of Redding and continue approximately 11 miles west. Turn onto Whiskey Creek Road, pass the Whiskey Creek launch area, at the fork in the road turn right, follow paved road approximately one mile where it ends at the group picnic area.
