Overview

Bandy Creek is a spacious and modern campground, situated in The Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area--a vast and scenic expanse of land that offers visitors countless recreational activities.

Natural Features:

The Big South Fork is located in north central Tennessee and southeastern Kentucky in some of the most rugged terrain of the Cumberland Plateau. The park encompasses approximately 125,000 acres including rocky gorges and forested plateaus.

Numerous pristine streams unite with the free-flowing Big South Fork of the Cumberland River. Over thousands of years, ceaselessly moving water has carved the sandstone of the plateau into impressive cliffs, arches and chimneys, which are found throughout the park.

Recreation:

Numerous trails snake through the Recreation Area, offering mountain biking, hiking and horseback riding for visitors.

A swimming pool, along with on-site volleyball courts, playgrounds and ball fields, make Bandy Creek an ideal spot for families.

The main river of the Big South Fork is also a short walk away, offering fishing opportunities.

Facilities:

Bandy Creek combines the experience of traditional woods camping with the modern conveniences of flush toilets, hot showers and electric hookups. Sites can accommodate groups and both RV and tent camping.

The campsites are spacious and provide picnic areas and plenty of shade.

Nearby Attractions:

Located just under 20 miles from Bandy Creek is the Blue Heron Mine, also known as Mine 18, a historic abandoned mining town that has been rebuilt as an outdoor museum. Visitors can hear audio presentations from actual people who lived in the community in the 1950s.

Know Before You Go

Black bears and other wildlife frequent the area; visitors must follow food and garbage storage regulations
This is a hazardous tree area and branches may fall at any time; use caution when selecting a place to camp
Check in at campground entrance upon arrival
A Tennessee or Kentucky fishing license is required to fish in the main river of the Big South Fork

From I-75 Northbound, take the Oneida-Huntsville exit 141 onto Highway 63. Follow Highway 63 west for 21 miles, through Huntsville. Turn right on US-27 and drive north 7 miles to Oneida. At the first traffic light, turn left on Highway 297 west and follow the signs to the campground for approximately 15 miles.

From I-75 Southbound, take exit 62 at Mt Vernon and turn right onto Highway 461. Travel about 19 miles, then take Highway 80 Westward to the Highway 914 bypass. Follow Highway 914 for six miles, then turn left on US-27 and travel south approximately 50 miles to Oneida, Tennessee. Take Highway 297 west and follow the signs to the campground for approximately 15 miles.

From I-40 Westbound, take the Jamestown-Crossville exit and merge onto US-127 north for 36 miles into Jamestown. Two miles north of Jamestown, take Highway 154 north to the intersection of Highway 297. Follow 297 east for approximately 12 miles and follow signs to the park.

From I-40 Eastbound, take the Monterey-Livingston exit 300-A onto State Highway 62. Continue east for 16 miles to US-127 toward Clarkrange, turn left and follow for 18 miles into Jamestown. Travelers may take US-127 through Jamestown or use the new Highway 127 bypass. Two miles north of Jamestown, take Highway 154 north to the intersection of Highway 297. Follow 297 east approximately 12 miles and follow signs to the park.
