Entry to the lookout is by key. Please call the Wild Rivers Ranger District office at 541.592.4000 4 days prior to your arrival to confirm your pick up and drop off of the key. To arrange to pick up your key for weekends, holidays or after hours, please call during business hours. The key can be picked up at the district office, located at 26568 Redwood Hwy, Cave Junction, OR during regular business hours. The office is open Monday thru Friday from 8:00 to 4:30 and closed on weekends and holidays. There is a 3 day minimum advance window for reservations. The maximum stay is five consecutive nights for up to four people. There is a $40.00 fee per night. This money is used for maintenance and renovation of the lookout. Port-Orford cedar root disease is a concern in southwest Oregon. This disease can be transported through mud or dirt on vehicles. You must wash your vehicle, including the undercarriage, before you enter National Forest lands. The area around the lookout contains sensitive plants. Plant collecting is not allowed. There is no potable water at this site. Visitors must bring plenty of water for drinking, cooking and washing. Please bring your own garbage bags and clean the facility before you leave. This is a "Pack it in, Pack it out" site. Please bring sleeping bags/bedding, as well as a flashlight or lantern (there are no lights in the lookout), stove, cookware, dishes, utensils, first aid kit, washcloths and towels, dish soap and cleaning supplies. All Forest Service Cabin Rentals are No Smoking facilities. Please contact the Ranger District prior to arriving at the cabin/lookout rental to check on any restrictions or conditions, such as fire or road closures, weather or storms, etc., that may affect the quality of your visit.

From Cave Junction travel south on Hwy 199 6.4 miles to Happy Camp Road. Turn left and travel 17.3 miles on Forest Service Road (FSR) 48/Happy Camp Road to the junction with FSR 4812. Turn left and travel 4.1 miles to the junction of FSR 4812-040, the road to Bolan Lake Campground. Turn left again and travel 1.1 miles to FSR 535. Turn right and travel 1.6 miles to the lookout. FSR 535 is gated. ALTERNATIVE ROUTE DRIVING INSTRUCTIONS: Drive South on 199 from District office to Rockydale Rd. Turn Left--approximately 0.6 miles Drive to the end of Rockydale Rd, Turn Left onto Waldo Rd...approximately 6.6 miles End at Rockydale to stop sign---approximately 0.9 miles At stop sign continue through (onto county Rd 5828-turns into FS Rd 4800) to Rd 4812--approximately 12.6 miles. Veer Left onto Rd 040 to lookout gate (FS Rd 535)--approximately 1.6 miles.
