BUFFALO POINT (AR), Buffalo National River, AR

Description

Buffalo Point offers campsites with water and electricity and the only restaurant within the park. Two popular attractions within the Buffalo Point Area are the Indian Rockhouse Trail and the Rush Historic District.

Rush was a zinc mining community until the bottom fell out of the zinc market and the settlement became a ghost town. Buffalo Point is the former Buffalo River State Park, developed in the 1930s as project of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). Information is available at either of the two Buffalo Point Information Stations. The upper station is open year round and the campground station is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day. You will find a wild free flowing and unpolluted river that passes towering bluffs and wilderness areas dominated by vast hardwood forest most of the visitor season. Canoeing, kayaking, rafting and hiking are permitted.

Additional campground information can be provided at 870-449-4311.

Alerts and Important Information

The consecutive days spent in the park should be 14 days within a 30 day period. Reservations must be made 3 days in advance.
Campground quiet hours are from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Generators prohibited from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.
Draining wastewater onto the ground from vehicles or trailers is prohibited.
Pets are allowed in the park but not allowed on trails and must be leashed at all times.
Keep vehicles on maintained roads.
Beware of the Beautiful Bluffs. The bluffs along the Buffalo River can be very dangerous to climb. Slippery vegetation, wet spots, and crumbling rock add up to treacherous footing. People often feel compelled to scale the bluffs and then find themselves stranded or worse, falling. Diving from the bluffs is dangerous. Hidden rocks, shallow bottoms, tree roots and logs can lie under the water surface creating hazards to unsuspecting divers.
The river is great for swimming but never swim alone or during high water. There are no life guarded swimming areas.
Concessionaires provide canoes, paddles, lifejackets and shuttle services.
For additional information for the local area, please contact the Convention of Visitor Bureau at 870-741-1789. TEST
