Overview

Columbine Campground is located just off the Peak to Peak Scenic Byway/Highway 119, west of Denver, in north central Colorado. This campground is popular with off-road enthusiasts and many jeep roads can be reached from the campground.

Facilities

This campground has 46 sites on two loops. Five of these sites are suitable for tents only; the others are suitable for both RV and/or tents. Each site has a picnic table and campfire ring. Other amenities include vault toilets, water spigots and trash service. Bundled firewood is for sale by the onsite campground manager. RV units are not permitted to fill tanks from the water spigots. All of the sites are non-electric.

Natural Features

The campground's two loops are situated in a grove of aspen and lodgepole pine, at an elevation of 9,200 feet.

Recreation

Many hiking and biking trails are found nearby. Scenic driving is available along Highways 119 and 72, which is also known as the Peak to Peak Scenic Byway. Numerous creeks, rivers and lakes in the area provide fishing opportunities. Off-road enthusiasts will find many jeep roads in the vicinity.

Nearby Attractions

The historic mining town of Central City is nearby. Popular events there include Lou Bunch Day and the Central City Opera and Jazz festivals.

Golden Gate Canyon State Park is a short drive from the campground. This scenic park offers over 35 miles of hiking trails. Mountain biking and horseback riding are allowed on some trails. Every stream and pond in the park is open to fishing.

Important Notices

  • RV water connections are not available. Utility hookups are not available.

  • Limited first-come, first-served sites are available during and outside the reservation season

  • Don't Move Firewood: Prevent the spread of tree-killing organisms by obtaining firewood at or near your destination and burning it on-site. For more information visit dontmovefirewood.org.
  • You must stay on the site you reserved. This is a busy place and site swapping is not allowed.

  • All campsites must be occupied within 26 hours of the beginning of the reservation. If not present the site will be rented by first come first serve basis.

  • EXTRA VEHICLE FEES: One vehicle is included in your reservation. Any additional vehicles will be charged $8.00 per vehicle per night and will be collected by the camphost. There is not a way to pay for extra vehicles when you make your reservation. One vehicle consists of one camper being towed by vehicle, or any other vehicle towed behind camper. One van or one truck with camper attached counts as one vehicle. 

  • Fire Restrictions: Fire restrictions may be imposed at any time due to hot, dry weather conditions, at which time campfires and charcoal fires may not be allowed. 

  • RVs, trailers or other vehicles must fit on the parking spur. The parking length ranges from 25 to 55 feet. Driving or parking off road is not permitted.

  • Pets must be on a handheld leash at all times.

  • Modifications for this campground must be made through Recreation.gov PRIOR to your reservation start date. Customers and contact center agents cannot modify reservations on or after the check-in date.

  • All vehicles including, RVs, trailers, and other vehicles must fit on the parking spur. Parking spur lengths range from 25 to 55 feet. Driving off road or parking off spurs is not allowed.

<p>From the town of Central City, follow Gilpin County Route 3 west to NFSR 176.1.</p><p></p><p>NFSR 176.1 access is a rough section of dirt road. County Route 3 is a rough section of gravel and dirt road.</p>

<p>A $10.00 service fee will apply if you change or cancel your reservation. Late cancellations are subject to additional fees.</p><p>Modifications for this campground must be made through <a href="http://Recreation.gov" rel="nofollow"><strong>Recreation.gov</strong></a> or by calling the call center at 1-877-444-6777 PRIOR to your reservation start date. Customers and contact center agents cannot modify reservations on or after the check-in date.</p>
