Overview

Cowlington Point Campground is located on the Robert S. Kerr Lock, Dam and Reservoir. Kerr Reservoir is a 50,000-acre lake located on the Oklahoma portion of the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System. Extensive opportunities for outdoor recreation can be found here.

Natural Features:

Kerr Reservoir is surrounded by a mixed forest of mainly oak and hickory trees, though Loblolly, Shortleaf, and Virginia pines dot the area.

Wildlife is a valued resource at Kerr Reservoir, where waterfowl, great blue herons, osprey, bald eagles and wild turkeys are commonly seen; river otters make occasional appearances as well.

Recreation:

Boating, canoeing, kayaking, fishing and swimming are popular activities on the vast reservoir that stretches 39 miles up the Arkansas River.

Visitors also enjoy hiking, hunting and picnicking among the thousands of acres surrounding the scenic lake.

Facilities:

Cowlington Point Campground offers 35 family sites and one day-use, group picnic shelter. All sites have electric and water hookups.

Flush and vault toilets, showers, and drinking water are provided, as are picnic tables and fire rings. A boat ramp, swimming beach, and dump station are located on-site.

Nearby Attractions:

The small town of Sallisaw, Oklahoma is 12 miles north, offering a variety of restaurants and shops. Attractions include Brushy Lake State Park, Spiro Mounds Archaeological Center, the Overstreet-Kerr Historical Farm and Sequoyah's Cabin.

Know Before You Go
  • A boat launch fee of $2/day is included in the camping fee
  • An attendant is on duty from April 1-Sept. 30
  • Entrance gate opens at 6 a.m. and closes at 10 p.m.
