ALL (1) OverviewCrescent Lake Cabin is an extremely remote and secluded place to stay in the Kenai Mountains of south-central Alaska. While it is recommended for more hardy travelers, it provides access to great fishing, hunting, trail and wildlife viewing opportunities.The cabin can be accessed by floatplane, or by hiking, biking, horseback riding, skiing or snowmobiling on a trail that requires up to 7 miles of trekking. Visitors are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety, and must bring several of their own amenities. Natural Features:The cabin is located south of Sterling Highway on the Crescent Lake Trail. It sits at the northwest end of Crescent Lake, at an elevation of about 1,450 feet. The surrounding area is close to the tree line, affording scenic views of nearby mountains. Recreation:Fishing in Crescent Lake is very popular for trophy-size grayling. A rowboat with oars is available at the cabin, however, life jackets and fishing equipment are not provided. High winds could present a danger to anyone on the lake. Facilities:The 12x14-ft rustic cabin can sleep four people comfortably, but can accommodate up to eight. It is equipped with wooden bunks, a table, benches and a wood stove for heat. Getting There:GPS Info. (Latitude, Longitude):60.47722, -149.57194 60°28'38"N, 149°34'19"W From milepost 45 on Sterling Highway, access the Crescent Creek Trail and trek about 6.5 miles to the cabin. It is also accessible by floatplane (15-minute flight from Moose Pass or 20 minute flight from Cooper Landing). Winter travelers need to be able to evaluate avalanche and over-ice travel conditions. The trail is closed to horse/pack stock from April 1 to June 30, and is closed to motor vehicles between May 1 and Nov. 30. Refer to USGS maps Seward B7, C7 and C8.
