ELKMONT (TN), Great Smoky Mountains National Park, TN

Description

Elkmont Campground is the largest campground in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It is the closest campground to Gatlinburg, Tennessee. The beautiful Little River runs directly through the center of the campground, offering campers the option of camping next to the river. Generator use is prohibited in some sections of the campground so please make sure that generator use is permitted at your chosen site if you wish to run a generator. (Check the map and site descriptions to determine which sites are "riverside" and generator free.)

There are several great hiking trails within minutes of the campground, including the popular Laurel Falls Trail. Little River is also an excellent trout fishing stream. Elkmont is known for its historical and cultural significance as a former logging community and summer resort getaway.

The camp store offers limited supplies but virtually all amenities, including a medical clinic, can be found in Gatlinburg, 8 miles away.

Elkmont Campground is open from the second week of March until December 1st. Campsites are available during the off season on a first come, first served basis at reduced rates.
