FARNSWORTH CABIN (PA), ALLEGHENY NF - FS, PA

Description

Farnsworth cabin in the Allegheny National Forest is tucked away in Cherry Grove Township; it is situated within the northwest portion of the 513,000 acre ANF. The cabin is located 8.5 miles northwest of Sheffield, PA, via 6 miles west on Legislative Route 2002, .5 miles north on Legislative Route 2001, then 2 miles northwest on Forest Road 154. It is located next to an active Trout Hatchery. GPS location.
The cabin is a stone structure constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCCs) in the 1930s that used nearby native materials for construction. At the same time they constructed a four bay garage and the trout hatchery. A dam was built to slow and divert stream water flow to the concrete built raceways and ponds to provide cold water habitat to raise young trout fingerlings. Although fishing is not permitted in the hatchery ponds or raceways, Farnsworth stream is stocked and fishing is permitted.
Farnsworth Cabin is available for public rental Year Round, weather permitting.
Visitors will have the opportunity to experience overnight stay at a semi rustic cabin with great historic beauty. The accommodations include indoor plumbing, full kitchen and bath. Living room with couch, table and recliner, also equipped with free local calling LAN line and flat screen television (no cable) and DVD player for those rainy days. Electric forced air heating and electric fireplace. Two bedrooms both with a queen size bed and a set of bunk beds. Outside is a side yard with fire ring, picnic table, outdoor furniture and charcoal grill.
Farnsworth is accessed by passenger vehicle with dirt roads and gated access. A popular wilderness area is Hickory Creek Wilderness Area is just a few miles away. Chapman State Park, Allegheny River, and Tionesta Creek are bodies of water in close vicinity of the cabin. The area offers countless small trout streams in the area and public land for hunting.

Alerts and Important Information

Reservations are required. Reservations must be made at least 7 days in advance.
Due to weather conditions, to make a reservation for January, February, or March please contact the Headquarters at 814-368-4158.

Cabin Rental Fee per night is $125.00 per night or $775.00 per week, 7 nights. Security deposit of $100.00 will be collected after reservation is made. Deposit is $200.00 if a pet is brought. Deposit will be refunded 1 week from day of departure. In addition to the pet deposit, there is an additional $25.00 fee per stay if you are bringing a pet.
Minimum stay is one night except for holiday weekends which are a 3 night required stay. Maximum stay is 30 nights.
Check In time is 2:00 pm and Check out time is 10:00 am.
No one under the age of 18 years can reserve the cabin. Occupants under the age of 18 years of age must be accompanied by someone 18 years or older.
Maid service is not provided; please clean the cabin before leaving. Cleaning supplies are provided on site. Wash and put away dishes, sweep & mop floors, put trash in outside receptacles. Remove all food items from fridge and cupboards. Leaving the cabin a mess will result in a loss of security deposit.
No Smoking in the cabin. No Fireworks on the premises, No Livestock.
Pets are permitted, just remember that you are responsible for any damages caused by your pet and an additional security deposit is required. Allegheny Site Mgmt reserves the right to charge your credit card for any additional damages beyond the amount of the security deposit.
Things to Bring: Food for meals, pillows and linens, towels, trash bags, warm clothing, dish soap, personal hygiene items. DVD players if desired or can be rented locally.
Basic cooking and eating utensils, plates, bowls, cups, pots and pans are furnished. Microwave, small crock pot, and coffee maker are also provided. Need to bring coffee and filters.
In this cabin there are 2 queen size beds, 2 sets of bunk beds, and a fold out sofa, with a maximum of sleeping for 8 people; remember there is only one bathroom and the cabin is not large enough to accommodate this many individuals comfortably in the living quarters.

The cabin is located 8.5 miles northwest of Sheffield, PA, via 6 miles west on Legislative Route 2002, .5 miles north on Legislative Route 2001, then 2 miles northwest on Forest Road 154 (Farnsworth Rd). Locate town of Claredon. Turn on Railroad Rd. at only street light in town. Continue towards Chapman Dam, take a left on Farnsworth Rd, travel approx. 5 miles, Cabin on your right.
