Overview

French Meadows Campground is located on the French Meadows Reservoir, in the Tahoe National Forest. It is about 40 miles from the nearby town of Foresthill. Visitors enjoy the area for its fishing, boating and trail opportunities.

Natural Features:

The campground sits on the southern shore of French Meadows Reservoir, in a coniferous forest. Summer days can be hot, but evenings are usually cool.

Recreation:

Popular activities on the reservoir include boating, canoeing, fishing and swimming. A boat ramp is located within the campground. The North Fork American River can be accessed nearby and provides additional opportunities for fishing and swimming.

A variety of hiking and biking trails are found in the surrounding area, including some that provide access to the nearby Granite Chief Wilderness.

Facilities:

The campground offers single-family campsites, a few of which are accessible. Each site is equipped with a picnic table, campfire ring and grill. Flush and vault toilets and drinking water are provided. Roads and parking spurs are paved. Some sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Know Before You Go

In accordance with standard industry practices, Tahoe Recreation will be assessing a $5 additional vehicle fee on the "second vehicle" in each single family campsite, and on the "third and fourth vehicle" in any double family campsite, provided these vehicles are not joined to the first vehicle by a hitch and towed onto the site. In the case of motorcycles, the first two are considered to be one vehicle and the third and fourth are also considered to be one vehicle. No additional vehicle fees are collected for bicycles.

This is bear country; food must be stored in approved containers

Take Highway 80 to the Foresthill Road, travel 17 miles east to Foresthill. Turn right on Mosquito Ridge Road and travel 34 miles east to French Meadow Reservoir. The campground is on the south shore.
