FIREWOOD ALERT!!!!!: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers would like for you to be aware of the potential serious threat to our Nation's forest from the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB). The EAB is a small insect that feeds on and kills ash trees and is transported via infested wood products, including firewood. Please visit the following website: http://www.emeraldashborer.info/ , to see if your area of the state has been infected and help us to slow down the progression of this pest by not bringing firewood with you to our campgrounds. To help eliminate the spread of the Emerald Ash Borer please do not remove firewood from the campground "burn it". GUN CREEK (IL), REND LAKE, ILDescriptionIn the heart of Southern Illinois, the Gun Creek Campground on Rend Lake offers excellent opportunities to enjoy camping, fishing, swimming, boating, and watching wildlife. The 19,000 acres of water and 20,000 acres of public lands at Rend Lake provide the perfect setting for your outdoor activities. The Rend Lake Bike Trail offers opportunities for biking and hiking. Gun Creek Campground offers 100 campsites, all with electric hookups. The campground is perfect for Recreational Vehicles and tent camping. Other amenities include a dump station, hot showers, a boat ramp, and playgrounds. Golf, trap shooting, and sporting clays are available within minutes of the campground. Boat rentals are available at the Rend Lake Marina and Rend Lake Resort. Other activities include the Rend Lake Visitor Center, Ranger-led programs, educational programs, environmental education, Rend Lake Wildlife Refuge, picnic areas, and water sports. Hunting is a large attraction to Rend Lake with its many acres of huntable government property adjacent to the parks. Auto touring and "Watchable Wildlife" viewing opportunities abound at the lake. Alerts and Important InformationStarting 10/27/2009 and Ending 11/30/2010 This campground is currently not accepting reservations for the 2010 recreation season due to scheduled construction and renovations. Please check reservation website for bulletins updating campground status. Reservations must be made at least 2 days in advance .This campground requires a 2 day minimum stay on weekends. This campground requires a 3 day minimum stay on holiday weekends. The campground is open from mid March through late November. Campsite capacity is one RV and three tents. Four tents are allowed if no RV is present. The shelter is reservable from April to October. An attendant is on duty as posted at the entrance station. All campers with reserved campsites must register with the gate attendant on the day of arrival. Campers with reservations who arrive when the entrance station is not open may use the "Express Check-in" option. Express Check-in forms are available at the entrance station.
