KIRBY COVE CAMPGROUND (CA), Golden Gate National Recreation Area, CA

Description

San Francisco, Golden Gate Bridge, Pacific Coast of California. Temperatures are mild year around. Expect lows from 50-55 degrees and highs from 60-65. Fog is prevalent in the summer months from May-Sept. It is best to bring clothing that can be layered. Light Weight summer clothes are rarely comfortable to wear at Kirby cove. Foghorns on the Golden Gate Bridge can be heard loud and clear from Kirby Cove. Best to bring earplugs if you are staying overnight No more than 15 additional guests may visit campers during the day between 6 AM - 10 PM. Mile long dirt access road to camping area is steep, narrow and winding. The road is not wide enough to accommodate large vehicles or RVs. Walk-in tent site only. Sleeping in vehicles is prohibited.

Example: Jane Camper may reserve site 1 on Mon/Site 2 on Tues/ Site 3 on Wed. or, any 1 site in May, 1 site in June, 1 site in July, etc.

Day Use Area: 3 days for the Season (April 1-Oct 31).

  • Please do not feed or approach any wildlife.

    Battery Townsley is now open the 1st Sunday of the month- 12pm -4pm.

    What Extreme Fire Danger and Red Flag Days mean: In Case of Emergency Call: (415) 561-5656 or 911.
  • All Fires and BBQ's in the Recreation Area will be banned.
  • Only self- contained gas stoves will be permitted at designated campgrounds and picnic areas.
  • Fire Management and or Law Enforcement staff will be posting "NO FIRES" signs at campgrounds, trailheads and appropriate beaches.

    Fire Danger Ratings:
  • Low - Self-contained gas stoves in designated campgrounds, park provided grills (designated picnic areas and campgrounds), self-contained charcoal barbeques, beach open pitfires are all allowed.

  • Extreme or Red Flag Warning - Self-contained gas stoves in designated campgrounds allowed. Park provided grills (designated picnic areas and campgrounds), self-contained charcoal barbeques and beach open pitfires are NOT allowed.

    From 101 North or South, take Alexander Ave/Sausalito exit. Turn left at the stop sign. Turn right up the steep hill named Conzelman Road, just before the entrance to the golden gate bridge. The Kirby Cove campground entrance will be on the left a short distance up the road. Look for the 3 poles at the end of a gravel pull-out and a locked white service gate.

    • Point Bonita Lighthouse is open year round Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 12:30pm - 3:30pm and for evening tours on full moon nights from Nov 09 2006 to Dec 31 2050
    • Nike Missile Site is open year round Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and on the first Saturday of the month from 12:30pm - 3:30pm from Nov 09 2006 to Dec 31 2050
    • This yearly coastal clean up will include the beach at Kirby Cove from 9am - 12pm (third saturday of September) from Sep 15 2007 to Dec 31 2050
    • Historic Battery Townsley is open for public tours the 1st Sunday of the month from 12-4pm from Mar 17 2009 to Dec 31 2050
