Alaska cabin reservations can only be changed once. If you need to modify your reservation a second time,it must be cancelled and then re-booked by calling 1-877-444-6777.*Effective November 17, 2003 to assure fairness for everyone.*
Cabin is primitive, no amenities except oil stove and outhouse.
Open fires must be in fire ring. Collect dead or downed wood only. Cutting green trees is a violation. Lake
or stream water must be treated before drinking. All garbage must be
packed out. Bring personal floatation devices for the skiff.
As of 6/16/2009 the Big Shaheen and Little Shaheen cabins have oil stoves and no wood stoves. Users should bring #1 heating oil (Kerosene) to fuel the stove. The stoves will burn half a gallon in 8 hours at the lowest setting, and up to 1.2 gallons during 8 hours at the highest setting at Little Shaheen, and 2 gallons during 8 hours at Big Shaheen. A flash light is handy for looking into the burn chamber when lighting the stove. Matches or a lighter are needed to light a small piece of paper to drop in to the burn chamber when lighting the stove. Detailed directions with color photos on how to light the stove are provided in the cabin.
DIRECTIONS: In the center of Admiralty Island, midway on the eastern shore
of Hasselborg Lake. Access by floatplane or canoe/portage. One-way flight
time from Juneau is approximately 30 minutes. By canoe and portage it is
approximately 10 miles to Mole Harbor.
