LODGEPOLE SEQUOIA NATIONAL PARK CA, Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park, CADescriptionLodgepole Campground is in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks in central California. It is situated on the banks of the Marble Fork of the Kaweah River, at 6700 feet (2042m) in elevation. It is just 2 miles (3km) from the Giant Forest sequoia grove and the General Sherman Tree, the world's largest tree in volume. The campground is the closest to many popular day-hike and wilderness trailheads in the Giant Forest Area. Lodgepole campground is very popular and all its sites are reservable. Same day reservation or walk up sales are seldom available during the summer especially for weekends and holidays The campground is 1/4-mile (400 m) from Lodgepole Village, which in summer offers a visitor center, nightly Interpretive Ranger programs, market, deli, snack bar, gift shop, post office, coin-operated showers and a laundromat. The entrance fee for Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks is $20 for 1-7 days. All Inter-Agency passes are accepted at the Entrance Stations. For general park information, call (559) 565-3341. All food, scented items, and garbage must be properly stored in provided bear-resistant food storage boxes, not in your car, 24 hours/day. Food-storage box dimensions are 28 inches high x 33 inches deep and 47 long. See http://www.nps.gov/seki/planyourvisit/bears.htm for important information about bears in the park. Your campsite is reserved for the camping equipment you have selected. If you arrive at the park with different camping equipment your reserved site might not be able to accommodate it. It is seldom possible to switch to an accommodating site if you arrive with different equipment. Reserving blocks of sites more than two for commercial group camping or large family group gatherings is prohibited. These are single family RV/Tent sites. Combined vehicle-plus-trailer length cannot exceed site parking pad length limit. Tow vehicles may park in the overflow parking lot. No gasoline is available in the park. Be sure to fill up before you enter. Check-in Check in time is 12 noon or later and check out time is by 12 noon on the day of departure. Go directly to the campground kiosk. Please check in prior to occupying your site. Reservation holders arriving after the campground kiosk has closed may go directly to their site but need to check-in at the kiosk the next morning by 10:00am. If arriving after the first day of reservation, call (559) 565-4487 by 12 noon of the second day or your reservation will be forfeited. Visitors who use an Inter-Agency Senior (Golden Age) or Access (Golden Access) pass to obtain a discounted rate for their camping reservation will be asked to present the pass with proper identification at the time of check-in. If not able to meet this requirement the visitor will be responsible for paying the difference between the discounted and regular rates. Alerts and Important InformationRoad Construction along the Generals Highway, Mondays through Fridays, 6AM-6PM, through October, will create traffic delays of 1 hour or more in reaching Lodgepole Campground from either the South Entrance (Highway 198) or the North Entrance (Highway 180). At this time there is no construction activity on weekends. A maximum of 6 people are allowed per site. Some sites will not accommodate more than one tent.Many of our TENT ONLY sites will accommodate only one vehicle. Extra vehicles (vehicles that do not fit all wheels on the site parking pad) must be parked in the overflow parking lot in the campground. There are no electric, water, or sewer hookups. There is a free Dump Station with potable water to fill water tanks. Cell phone service is poor to non-existent throughout Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. QUIET HOURS: Quiet hours are from 10pm to 6am. Generator hours are from 8am to 11am, and 5pm to 8pm. No generators are allowed in sites #36-60 and 69-144. Music and conversation should be audible in your campsite only. Portable showers are allowed as long as grey water is properly collected and disposed of. There are no facilities available in the Park to dispose of propane/butane canisters. Please, take them with you when you check out. Local markets sell firewood. Gathering dead and down wood is allowed. Chainsaw use is prohibited as is cutting limbs and branches from standing trees. Pets are not allowed on park trails. They are permitted in campgrounds and other developed areas. Pets must be leashed no longer than 6 and cannot be left unattended. Pets may not be allowed to bark excessively. Please pick up and properly dispose of pet waste. A California state fishing license is required for fishing. Shuttle bus service runs from Visalia to the Giant Forest in Sequoia National Park from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend. Shuttle service reservations are required for getting to the park by calling 1-877BUS-HIKE or www.sequoiashuttle.com There is a separate free shuttle service within the Giant Forest area of Sequoia National Park with shuttle stops at the Wuksachi Lodge, Lodgepole Visitor Center and Market, Lodgepole campground, Upper and Lower General Sherman Tree parking, Giant Forest Museum, Moro Rock and Crescent Meadow. (Latitude, Longitude): 36.50139, -118.62639 Visitors from the South traveling to Dorst Creek should take CA Highway 180E, if transitting after 8:30pm and prior to 5:00am Visitiors from the North traveling to Lodgepole should take CA Highway 198 E, if transitting after 8:30pm and prior to 5:00 am. Both roads leading to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks approach from the west. They are open all day, every day, depending on weather. From the east, no roads reach the park boundary. Arriving from the south: From highways 65 or 99, go east on Highway 198E. Follow signs to Sequoia National Park to the park entrance. Vehicles over 22 feet long should approach the parks from Highway 180E rather than Highway 198E, due to steep curving roads. Highway 180E may be reached from Highway 198E using Highway 63N from Visalia. Arriving from the north: From Fresno, take Highway 180E, following signs to Kings Canyon National Park. Once in the park, follow signs to Sequoia National Park and Lodgepole. It takes about one hour to drive to the campground from either park entrance. The main park road, the Generals Highway, connects the north and south entrances. Winter storms may cause temporary closures from Grant Grove to Lodgepole.
