POWELL CAMPGROUND (ID), CLEARWATER NF -FS, ID

Description

Open for reservations May 21 through September 7. Reservations can be made 180 days in advance. Fees: $15.00 per night for sites with electricity (Loop A) $8.00 per night for non-electric sites (Loop B)

Powell Campground is located in north central Idaho, adjacent to the beautiful "Wild and Scenic" Lochsa River. The Lochsa River is world famous for its exciting white water rafting opportunities. You do not need a permit to float the Lochsa, but technical expertise is a must. The Lochsa River is a destination fly fishing experience for cutthroat and rainbow trout, chinook salmon and steelhead. This unique campground is across the river from the 1.5 million acre Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness and yet it is within walking distance to a convenience store, gas, phone, restaurant, rental cabins and the Powell Ranger Station. Campground has paved roads and spurs, with one flush toilet near the Day Use area and vault toilets in Loops A and B. Each site has a campfire ring and picnic table. Some sites have tent spots. Firewood is not provided or always available.

Alerts and Important Information

  • Reservations must be made at least 4 days in advance.
  • Campground requires a 3 night minimum stay on holidays.
  • The camping fee includes entry for 1 camping vehicle and 1 towed vehicle.
  • A $2.00 fee per day per extra vehicle will be collected at the campground.
  • Nearest free dump station is 40 miles west on Highway 12 at Wilderness Gateway Campground.
  • Domestic pets must be leashed at all times and owners must clean up after them.
  • Livestock is not allowed in campground (i.e. horses, mules, llamas, goats).
  • Campers with livestock may camp in Loop D of Wilderness Gateway CG, 40 miles west on Highway 12.
