Overview

Ramshorn Campground is located off of Highway 49, in the North Yuba River area near Downieville, northwest of Lake Tahoe. Visitors enjoy a wide variety of recreational activities in the area, including hiking, hunting, fishing, canoeing and gold panning.

Natural Features:

The campground's two loops are situated among abundant blackberry bushes in a forest of cedar and fir trees. Shady oak trees are scattered around the upper loop.

Recreation:

A network of trails crisscrosses the surrounding area. The 5.8-mile Halls Ranch Trail is open to hiking. The Yuba River Trail can be accessed nearby.

The North Yuba River offers swimming, wading and rainbow trout fishing. The river is a popular destination for seasonal rafting, kayaking and tubing.

Facilities:

The campground offers several single-family sites, all of which are designated for tent camping only. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and campfire ring. Vault toilets and drinking water are provided.

Know Before You Go
  • In accordance with standard industry practices, Tahoe Recreation will be assessing a $5 additional vehicle fee on the "second vehicle" in each single family campsite, and on the "third and fourth vehicle" in any double family campsite, provided these vehicles are not joined to the first vehicle by a hitch and towed onto the site. In the case of motorcycles, the first two are considered to be one vehicle and the third and fourth are also considered to be one vehicle. No additional vehicle fees are collected for bicycles.
  • Bears frequent the area; all food must be kept in approved containers
  • An additional $2 per day fee is charged for reservations during Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day weekends
  • Utility hookups and showers are not available
  • This facility is operated by Tahoe Recreation, doing business as California Land Management and comments are welcome; comment forms are available from campground hosts or online
