ALL (1) OverviewRedoubt Lake Cabin is located adjacent to the inlet stream to Reboubt Lake on Baranof Island, approximately 10 air miles southeast of Sitka, Alaska. The wooden A-frame cabin is generally available year round and makes an excellent base for experiencing and exploring this corner of Alaska. This is a remote site. The cabin can be accessed the easiest by float plane via a 15-minute ride from Sitka. During the summer, the cabin can also be accessed by boat and the difficult 6-mile Salmon-Redoubt Lake Trail. The trail begins at the head of Silver Bay southeast of Sitka, passes near Salmon Lake Cabin and proceeds to Redoubt Lake, gaining steeply in elevation before dropping down to the cabin and lake. Visitors are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety, and must bring their own amenities. Natural Features:Redoubt Lake lies about 10 feet above sea level. The topography is distinctive and fjord-like, with forested mountains rising around the cabin to nearly 3,500 feet in elevation to snowfields and dramatic granite cirques. Spruce and hemlock forests cover the region. Numerous waterfalls are visible the entire length of the lake. Recreation:Activities at Redoubt Lake include hiking, fishing, boating and deer hunting in season. The Salmon Lake-Redoubt Lake Trail begins just beyond woodshed. The trail is difficult and hikers should consider conditions before embarking on a hike. Facilities:The wooden A-frame cabin measures 16 by 16 feet. The cabin can accommodate up to eight people and has an open, upstairs sleeping loft with no bunks that is reached by climbing a vertical ladder. Three sets of bunk beds are provided: one double plywood bunk and two single plywood bunks. Activities and Amenities

Go to the head of Silver Bay, then hike 6 miles on the very difficult Salmon Lake-Redoubt Lake Trail. Check trail conditions before going. A difficult access by a very small, light skiff is also possible at the west end of the lake from Redoubt Bay (at the base of the falls) across 100-foot (30-meter) portage. However, please note that due to the length Redoubt Lake (approx. 10 mi/15 km), it can become very windy. Please consult local tide tables before departing for the cabin.
