FIREWOOD ALERT!!!!!: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers would like for you to be aware of the potential serious threat to our Nation's forest from the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB). The EAB is a small insect that feeds on and kills ash trees and is transported via infested wood products, including firewood. Please visit the following website: http://www.emeraldashborer.info/ , to see if your area of the state has been infected and help us to slow down the progression of this pest by not bringing firewood with you to our campgrounds. To help eliminate the spread of the Emerald Ash Borer please do not remove firewood from the campground "burn it".

SOUTH SANDUSKY CAMPGROUND (IL), REND LAKE, IL

Description

In the heart of Southern Illinois, the South Sandusky Campground on Rend Lake offers excellent opportunities to enjoy camping, fishing, swimming, boating, and watching wildlife. The 19,000 acres of water and the 20,000 acres of public lands at Rend Lake provide the perfect setting for your outdoor activities. The Rend Lake Bike Trail offers opportunities for biking and hiking. South Sandusky Campground offers 129 campsites, of which 121 have electric hookups, 18 with water and sewer hookups, and 8 non-electric walk-in tent sites. The campground is perfect for Recreational Vehicles and tent camping. Other amenities include a dump station, hot showers, nearby boat ramps, and playgrounds. Golf, trap shooting, and sporting clays are available within minutes of the campground. Boat rentals are available at the Rend Lake Marina and Rend Lake Resort. Other activities include the Rend Lake Visitors Centers, Ranger-led programs, educational programs, environmental education, Rend Lake Wildlife Refuge, picnic areas, and water sports. Hunting is a large attraction to Rend Lake with its many acres of huntable government property adjacent to the parks. Auto touring and "Watchable Wildlife" viewing opportunities abound at the lake. Rend Lake is one of the best areas for birding. Horseback riding and trail rides are available at the Wayne Fitzgerrell State Park. For specific area information, visit the Rend Lake homepage.

Reservations must be made at least 2 days in advance. This campground requires a 2 day minimum stay on weekends. This campground requires a 3 day minimum stay on holiday weekends. The campground is open from April through October and sites range from $12-$22/night. An attendant is on duty as posted at the entrance station, and the campground telephone number is 618-625-3011. Campsite capacity is 1 RV and 3 tents. Four tents are allowed if no RV is present. All campers with reserved campsites must register with the gate attendant at the entrance station on the day of arrival. Nearest boat ramp at South Sandusky Day Use Area, about 3/4 miles from our entrance. During the spring and fall, it will be necessary to use the North Sandusky boat ramp, located across the cove.

From I-57 exit 71- go west on IL Route 14 for 3 miles to Rend City Road. Go north on Rend City Road for 6 miles. The entrance to the park is on the right.
