Overview
Located in Wisconsin's Northwoods, are the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forests. The name Chequamegon derives from the Chippewa Indian language and means "place of shallow water." The reference is to Chequamegon Bay, extending from Ashland into Lake Superior.
