ALL (1) OverviewSwan Lake Cabin Seward is a remote, rustic cabin on the Kenai Peninsula of south-central Alaska. It provides access to a scenic mountain lake and great opportunities for fishing and hunting.Visitors can trek or fly to the cabin, via a nearly 13-mile hike or up to a 30-minute flight by floatplane. Visitors are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety, and must bring several of their own amenities. Natural Features:The cabin is located north of Sterling Highway, set back from the eastern tip of Swan Lake. It is surrounded by a spruce and birch forest with views of the lake and nearby mountains. A variety of wildlife makes its home in the area. Berries ripen mid-July through mid-September. Recreation:Visitors enjoy boating and fishing for rainbow trout, lake trout, Dolly Varden and sockeye salmon in Swan Lake. A rowboat with oars is provided at the cabin. Fishing equipment is not provided and permits are required to fish or hunt in the state (click here for Alaska Department of Fish & Game regulations). Facilities:The 12x14' cabin can accommodate up to eight people, but sleeps four more comfortably. It is equipped with wooden bunks, a table, benches and a wood stove for heat. Getting There:GPS Info. (Latitude, Longitude):60.61556, -149.83889 60°36'56"N, 149°50'20"W Follow Hope Highway from Seward Highway after arriving on the Kenai Peninsula. From Resurrection Pass Trail South Trailhead, hike 12.8 miles to the cabin or take a floatplane (30 minutes from Moose Pass, 15 minutes from Cooper Landing). Refer to USGS map, Seward C8. Maps are available online or by calling the Seward Ranger District at (907) 224-3374. Winter travelers need to be able to evaluate avalanche and over-ice travel conditions. For more current travel conditions call the district office. The trail is closed to horse/pack stock from April 1 to June 30, and is open to over-snow motorized vehicles from Dec. 1 to April 30 every other winter season, beginning with the winter of 2007-2008. It is closed to motorized vehicles every other winter season beginning with the 2008-2009 winter season.
