Inyo National Forest, Wilderness Permits

Transaction Fee:

A $6.00 non-refundable Transaction Fee is required for each permit reservation. The Transaction Fees are used to finance the on-line reservation system.

Reservation Fee:

A per person reservation fee is charged for your group when making a wilderness permit reservation for entry on Inyo National Forest trails. The fee is $15.00 per person for trips entering the Whitney Zone (Mt. Whitney, North Fork of Lone Pine Creek and Trail Crest Exit); $5.00 per person for all other trails. These fees are used to finance the on-the-ground management of Inyo National Forest Wilderness Areas.

Changes and Cancellations Policy

Reservations are not for re-sale and cannot be transferred to other groups or to future years.

Refunds:

If you cancel your reservation at least 22 days prior to your entry date, all reservation fees collected will be refunded. The $6.00 transaction fee is non-refundable for all reservations. If you cancel your reservation 21 days or less prior to the entry date, none of the fees will be refunded.

No Show Policy:

You must confirm your group size or pick up your permit by 10 am on the entry date or the reservation will be canceled as a No Show. Please cancel your reservation if you are unable to use it as this opens quota space for others.

Reservation Changes:

Changes to a reservation are allowed up until 2 days in advance of your entry date. Please confirm your group size and reservation one or two weeks before your trip.
  • Change in the number of people while keeping the same dates and trail: If you are increasing your party size, a $15.00/person (Whitney Zone) or $5.00/person reservation fee will apply depending on your trail entry point. Decrease in group size at least 22 days prior to the entry date, the per person reservation fee will be refunded for the number of people reduced. Reductions in group size 21 days or less prior to the entry date will not be refunded.
  • Change in the entry trail or date of entry: If space is available, cancel your current reservation and reserve the desired trail and dates. You will pay new reservation and transaction fees.
