The LotteryThe BWCAW lottery was initiated well over a decade ago in order to fairly distribute available quotas for entry dates and entry points where demand exceeds availability. The permit reservation process starts each year when lottery applications for permit reservations may be submitted through Recreation.gov beginning December 1. Applications submitted via Recreation.gov will be accepted through January 15. All applications submitted during this period will be processed by lottery (regardless of the order received).FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED On January 20, following the lottery, first-come, first-served reservation processing will begin via Recreation.gov. Phone reservations will be accepted beginning February 1.
PoliciesRESERVATION FEE A $6.00 non-refundable reservation fee is required for each reserved permit.OVERNIGHT USER FEE When making advanced reservations, you will be given the option to pay for the entire group or charged a minimum of $32.00 for 2 adults. You will also have the option of changing the group size through Recreation.gov within a two day window prior to the entry date.

Change and Cancellation Policy:If a BWCAW reservation is cancelled outside the 2-day window prior to your entry date, the user fees paid by the card holder will be fully refunded. If cancelled within the 2-day window, $32.00 for 2 adults is retained and additional payments will be refunded. The Forest Service will retain the entire payment if the group is a no show. A new confirmation letter will be generated each time a change is made. Adjustments to group sizes can be made through Recreation.gov or at the permit issuing station as needed. The $6.00 reservation fee is non-refundable. Cancellations to the reservations can be made via Recreation.gov or by calling the BWCAW Reservation Center. Enchantment Permit AreaPermit Fees, Changes, and Cancellations Policy:Reserving PermitsThe Enchantment Permit system was initiated nearly thirty ago, in order to fairly distribute the limited number of permits available under quotas established by the Alpine Lakes Area Land Management Plan of 1981. These permits are required for all overnight use in the Enchantment Permit Area portion of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness between June 15th and October 15th. You can reserve permits in advance for the Enchantment Permit Area through the NRRS™ in the following ways: The LotteryThe permit reservation process starts for the coming summer when lottery applications for permit reservations are accepted by Recreation.gov beginning February 28th . Applications submitted via Recreation.gov will be accepted through March 20th. All applications submitted during this period will be randomly processed by lottery (regardless of the order received). Nearly 75% of all available permits for the five Permit Zones that make up the Enchantment Permit Area are distributed through this lottery. Reservations On A First-Come, First-Served BasisOn April 13th, following completion of the lottery confirmation process, first-come, first-served reservation processing will begin via Recreation.gov. Phone reservations will also be accepted beginning April 13th. Any portion of the permit quota available to lottery applicants that were not issued will be available for purchase at this time. Also, any cancellations made throughout the season will be made available on an ongoing basis. Day of Entry "Walk-in" PermitsAdditional permits are also available during the June 15 - October 15 season each morning at the Wenatchee River Ranger Station, at 7:45AM, Monday-Saturday. These permits are not reservable, and are very limited in number. They are good only for entry on the same day that they are issued. Permits not claimed by 9:00AM on day of departure will be considered "no-shows", and will be re-issued to another group unless prior arrangements have been made with ranger station staff. Refunds: Refunds due to cancellations made more than 21 days prior to date of departure will be returned within 48 hours if paid by credit card. No refunds will be distributed for cancellations within 21 days of departure, or no-shows. Bankcard Purchases: Refunds for bankcard payments will be issued as a credit to your bankcard. Discounts: There are no discounts that can be applied to the Enchantment Area Permits. Cables on Half DomePermit Fees, Changes, and Cancellations Policy:This hiking reservation is transferable. You can give a permit to anyone else, but each permit can only be used once. Permits cannot be resold or auctioned. Cancellation Policy: The Half Dome permit is non-refundable. However, if you cancel a permit, someone else may be able to use it. Once a permit is cancelled, it becomes available via Recreation.gov. You may cancel a permit until midnight the evening before the permit date. Permit holders are responsible to understand and follow all the terms and conditions of the permit.
