Mountain elevations in this area traditionally have ice and snow until late June or early July.
Baker and Green Lakes trail: Several different access points lead to the Baker Lake area. Please refer to the area map to determine the correct trail name for your reservation. Starting from Big Pine Creek and Glacier Lodge, the Baker and Green Lakes trail climbs several miles of sage-covered slopes outside of wilderness and eventually winds through stands of Jeffrey pines to climb past Grouse Spring and High Meadow. Views of the Middle Palisade and Disappointment Peak can be seen as you climb over the ridge. The trail follows Baker Creek, to Baker Lake, and then descends into Bishop Creek Canyon past Green Lake and Brown Lake. Alternate starting points from Bishop Creek Canyon are near Parchers Resort or South Lake parking lot. Brown and Green Lake are not in the wilderness boundary.

Baker Lake Area: Special approval required for commercial use.
- No campfires.
- Food and refuse must be stored so that animals cannot get into the food or trash.
- This area is near a new population of Bighorn Sheep. Use of pack goats is not advised in order to protect the health of the wild sheep.
- John Muir Wilderness regulations apply.
- Deadline: Reservation will be canceled unless the permit pick up instructions are completed before the deadline. Instructions are in the confirmation letter.
- Only the group leader or alternate leader may pick up the permit; the person picking up the permit must be going on the wilderness trip.
- BE SURE YOUR DATES AND TRAIL ARE CORRECT -The entire group must start on the trail on the entry date listed. Reservations cannot be changed or transferred.

Exit Location: Mt. Whitney (Trailcrest Exit) - JM35

ICE and SNOW ALERT-
Mountain elevations in this area traditionally have ice and snow until late June or early July.
Exiting via Trail Crest allows you the option to hike to the summit of Mt Whitney and camp along the Mt Whitney trail as you finish your trip. All Mt. Whitney visitors are expected to pack-out their solid human waste. Pack-out kits are distributed with wilderness permits.
