Whiskeytown / Shasta-Trinity National Recreation Area, CA

Overview

Shasta Lake, with it's 370 miles of shoreline offers a variety of outdoor activities including: houseboating, water-skiing, swimming, fishing, camping, picnicking, hiking, hunting, spelunking, wildlife viewing, and mountain biking. Main attractions include Shasta Dam (the second largest dam in the United States), Shasta Caverns and the Chappie-Shasta Off-highway vehicle area. Water oriented sports such as fishing, water-skiing and houseboating dominate the recreation spotlight at Trinity and Lewiston lakes. Main attractions include Trinity and Lewiston Dams, Trinity Heritage Scenic Byway, and the Trinity River Fish Hatchery. Trailheads adjacent to the Trinity Unit provide access to the beautiful Trinity Alps Wilderness.

Shasta Lake is located 11 miles north of Redding on Interstate 5. Trinity and Lewiston Lakes are located 45 miles west of Redding on Highway 299.
