Overview

Willard National Fish Hatchery, located on the Little White Salmon River, is unique because it does not hold adult salmon. The hatchery lies on the upper banks of the Little White Salmon River, above 30 foot Spirit Falls unnavigable by salmon. Established in 1952, Willard was originally coupled with the Western Nutrition Laboratory, now the U.S. Geological Service’s Columbia River Research lab. Today the hatchery rears two million Upriver Bright Fall Chinook salmon released each year into the Little White Salmon River, and around one million Coho salmon that are transferred to the Yakama Nation. Willard fulfills tribal, commercial, and sport fisheries obligations
