Overview

The Brown Hotel, built in 1923 and a member of Historic Hotels of America® since 1989, was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

Historic Hotels of America is the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation® for recognizing and celebrating the finest historic hotels across America.

The Brown, a historic AAA Four Diamond hotel, features classic English Renaissance architecture and an elegant Georgian Revival style exterior trimmed in stone and terracotta. Its opulent two-story lobby with a hand-painted coffered ceiling, Bottocino marble floor, finely carved mahogany furnishings, and Palladian-style windows were described by a writer from Southern Living, who declares, "I love a grand hotel. I adore sweeping into a lavish lobby that looks as though it came straight from a 1930's movie set." The Brown has been a beloved Louisville landmark and favorite social gathering spot since it opened in 1923, and it was named one of the world's best hotels by Travel + Leisure magazine in 2015.
