The Capital Hotel has been regarded as Little Rock's "front porch" since 1876 when President Ulysses S. Grant stayed as a guest. The hotel opened with indoor plumbing and heating and introduced the country's first "magnetic annunciator" to call room service. In awe of the state-of-the-art communication system and the first electric light in a Southern hotel, a local declared it "a capital enterprise in a capital building." The name stuck. Throughout the years, the Capital has been a beacon to Southern culture, reflecting the best of the region. By bringing fresh ideas to established favorites and by providing meaningful experiences to its guests, the Capital Hotel invites each guest to make themselves Southern Comfortable.
