Overview

The Caribbean Motel, built in 1957 and a member of Historic Hotels of America® since 2011 was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

Historic Hotels of America is the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation® for recognizing and celebrating the finest historic hotels across America.

Built in 1957 at the height of the Doo Wop craze, the Caribbean Motel was among New Jersey's most imaginative structures. It capitalized on post-World War II optimism and leisure, which included exotic holidays to the far-away lands featured in the movies. The Caribbean Motel swept guests away to similar destinations with its ultra-modern architectural elements, all of which have been preserved today, including a futuristic ramp to the second floor and sundeck, glass walls, recessed spaceship lights, and tropical landscaping with full-size plastic palm trees, the first to be planted in the Doo Wop motels. Now meticulously restored with modern amenities, this fabulous vintage motel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
