From Alexandria, drive west on Louisiana Highway 28 for 12 miles to Louisiana Highway 121 at Gardner. Turn left (south) and go 0.25 mile to Forest Road 279 (Valentine Road). Turn left (south) on Hwy 279 and go 1.5 miles to Forest Road 282, where you will find the recreation area entrance. There are two seperate day-use areas on the lake. The first is a picnicking and fishing day-use area located just past the northshore campground road. The second has been closed due to water treatment plant repairs and maintenance.
