From Alexandria, drive west on Louisiana Highway 28 for 12 miles to Louisiana Highway 121 at Gardner. Turn left (south) and go 0.25 mile to Forest Road 279 (Valentine Road). Turn left (south) on Hwy 279 and go 1.5 miles to Forest Road 282, where you will find the recreation area entrance, a signed location with a fee station. After the fee station, turn right onto the second paved road you reach which is the Valentine Lake Day-Use Area. When you reach the paved parking area of the day-use area, turn right onto the gravel spur road which leads you to the group-use area.
