Head west from Denver on U.S. Highway 285 South approximately 32 miles to Pine Junction. Go left (south) on Jefferson County Road 126. Continue south on County Road 126, going through the towns of Pine and Buffalo Creek. Travel four miles past Buffalo Creek on County Rd 126 and turning west on Forest Road 550. There is a good parking area on the right, a short distance in from the highway. To reach the Colorado Trail, go around the short fence and follow the old road north.
