From Lakeview Ranger District, go 2.5 miles north on Highway 395, and turn right on Highway 140. Take Highway 140 east for 8 miles, then turn right on Forest Road 3615. Go 0.5 miles and turn right on Old Highway 140. Continue west for 1.4 miles then turn left onto Forest Road 3915. Go on Forest Road 3915 for 9 miles and turn right on Forest Road 4011. Go on Forest Road 4011 for 2.5 miles. Turn left onto the 012 road and go for about 0.25 miles to the parking area. The 4011 road, past the turn off to the trailhead, goes to the top of Crane Mountain. If you choose to drive to the top of Crane Mt. a 4x4 vehicle is recommended because the road is very rough and steep.
