The routes pass through Sonoran Desert landscape and contain a section of the Great Western Trail.

Directions

Access #1- Forest Road (FR) 143 off Hwy87: From Mesa or Scottsdale travel east on Hwy 87 9 miles past the Ft. McDowell Indian Res. and turn right on to Forest Road 143. From east Mesa or Apache Jct. Take Power Rd. or Ellsworth Rd. north to Bush Hwy. and then northeast to Hwy 87. A parking area and restrooms are available about a mile down Forest Road 143.

Access #2- Stewart Mtn Group Site also known as Pobrecito: This entrance is a mile north of the Saguaro Lake turn off on Bush Hwy. From Mesa travel east on US 60 and take the Ellsworth exit. Follow Ellsworth approximately 10 miles to the Bush Hwy. Continue east on Bush Hwy approximately 7miles and turn right at the Pobrecito boat staging area.

Access # 3 & 4- Butcher Jones Rec. Site: From Mesa travel east on US 60 and take the Ellsworth exit. Follow Ellsworth approximately 10 miles to the Bush Hwy. Continue east on Bush Hwy approximately 6½ miles and turn right on the Butcher Jones turn off. There are 2 different entrances along the road. One is a mile in marked by a cattle guard and the other is at the back ofthe Butcher Jones Recreation Site at the green gate. Note: There is no parking of OHV trailers or riding in the recreation sites.
