The trail begins at the Big Bend trailhead on Forest Service road 6510, 1 mile west of Highway 230. The route starts at the road, climbs a rocky embankment, and traverses a steep slope overlooking the Upper Rogue River. A brief opening in the trees offers a glimpse of Fish Mountain to the north.
