The land that the memorial sits on was Mexican land until the 1960s, when it was handed over to the United States after the Chamizal Treaty. One boundary marker still sits on the historic US-Mexico boundary.

Directions

Visitors traveling east or west on I-10, exit 22B Hwy 54 and travel south on Hwy 54. Following the brown Chamizal National Memorial directional signs, turn right onto Paisano Drive. Turn left at light onto San Marcial Street. The memorial entrance is on the left. After driving into the park, follow the one-way paved road around the outdoor stage area to the large paved parking area located in front of the administrative building. The Memorial's main parking area offers lighted and secured parking for 162 vehicles, with an additional 5 spaces for handicapped parking. The area behind the outdoor stage is not open for public parking.
