This photo depicts the present-day Shenandoah Canal. No longer in use as a canal, this area as well as other portions of Virginius Island have mostly returned to nature. Take a walk along this path and you see a great blue heron standing in the water, turtles resting on a log, or damselflies flying nearby.

This photo depicts the Winchester & Potomac Railroad trestle and the St. Peter's Catholic Church. Neither are maintained by the park service and both are still active. When you visit you may see a cargo train going by very slowly on the trestle or you may visit St. Peter's if a docent is present or during Mass.
