Chimney Peak Back Country Byway is a rugged trek through some of California's best desert landscapes. Passing along over 50,000 acres of designated wilderness, this road-less-traveled offers a close glimpse of untrammeled territory as the Sierra Nevada range gives way to the Mojave Desert ecosystem. As the native habitat of charismatic animals such as mule deer, mountain lion, black bear, bobcat, and an assortment of smaller desert dwellers, the predominately pinyon-juniper woodland thrives with life. Witness the rolling topography and views that seem to stretch forever. These public lands are perfect for mountain biking, horseback riding, camping, and a variety of other outdoor activities.
