CADES COVE (TN), Great Smoky Mountains National Park, TN

Description

The 159 site Cades Cove Campground is located in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and approximately 9 miles from Townsend, Tennessee. Over 2 million visitors annually come to enjoy the scenic beauty of Cades Cove and its many historic structures. Popular activities include hiking, bicyling the 11-mile loop road and observing wildlife. While staying in the Cove, you may see whitetailed deer, wild turkey, coyote and/or black bear.

The nearby horse stable offers one hour horseback rides, hayrides and carriage rides from March thru October. The campground store offers camping supplies, firewood and ice and rents bicycles on an hourly or daily basis. Full service grocery stores are available in Townsend (9 miles); medical facilities are 30 miles away in Maryville.

Campsites include a 13' x 13' tent pad, a firering with cooking grill and a picnic table with lantern pole. Reasonable generator use is allowed in B loop; generator use is prohibited altogether in C loop from May 15-October 31. The dump station is open year round but provides limited service in winter months. Campsites are available on a first come, first served basis from November 1-May 14.

ACCESSIBLE SITES:Please be aware that ADA accessible sites should only be reserved for occupants who are handicapped or mobility impaired.

FOOD STORAGE: Black bears and other wildlife inhabit the area. Special regulations apply to the storage of food and garbage, as well as horse feed, and are strictly enforced.

FIREWOOD QUARANTINE:Firewood from a number of states and 2 Canadian Provinces is quarantined due to an insect infestation by one or more insect pests (e.g. the Emerald Ash Borer) that is devastating certain tree species. Please help protect our forests from these destructive pests and do not bring firewood into the Park from the following states: Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin as well as the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec.

HOOK UPS: There are no hook-ups or showers at any park campground. Potable water is available from a spigot in the campground.

QUIET HOURS: Quiet hours are in effect from 10 PM to 6 AM; generator use is restricted to 8AM to 8 PM. If you have a medical condition that requires electrical power at night, please contact the campground office in advance of your stay.

FIRES: Fires are allowed in fire rings only.

STAY/SITE LIMITS: A maximum of 6 people may occupy a campsite. The park stay limit is 14 consecutive days. Reservations which exceed the 14 consecutive day limit be cancelled and refunded.

FISHING: A Tennessee or North Carolina fishing license is required to fish in the park. Licenses are available in nearby towns at <$30. Special regulations apply in the park: single hook, artificial flies or lures only---no bait.

From Maryville, TN: Take U.S. 321 North (you'll actually be driving south!) from Maryville to Townsend, TN (about 22 miles). At the traffic light in Townsend, continue straight on TN 73 and follow signs to Cades Cove.

From Pigeon Forge, TN take US 321 South (you'll be driving westerly) to Townsend, TN. Turn left (south) at Townsend onto TN 73. Follow signs to Cades Cove.

  • The Cades Cove Loop Road normally opens to motor vehicles at sunrise and closes at sunset. However, the opening of the Loop Road is delayed until 10 AM in the summer on Wednesday and Saturday mornings to provide an opportunity for bicyclists to ride the Loop without cars. The "bicycle closure" starts with the first Wednesday after the first Saturday in May and ends with the last Wednesday before the last Saturday in September. Bicycles and helmets may be rented at the Cades Cove store. In 2009, the "bicycle closure" runs from May 06 2009 to Sep 23 2009
