Yucca House National Monument is located 8 miles south of Cortez, Colorado. The large, unexcavated pueblo was probably built around AD1200. The massive building and central location in the Montezuma Valley suggest that it was an important village. Yucca House has limited on-site parking, so tour participants will meet at the Colorado Welcome Center in Cortez and carpool to the site. A brief orientation will precede the tour.
Know Before You Go
Tour participants will meet at the Colorado Welcome Center at 4:30pm and carpool to the site, about 8 miles south of Cortez. Consider your physical health before joining a hike, expecially if you have heart or respiratory problems, or other physical difficulties. Elevation at Yucca House is about 6,000 feet (1829 meters) above sea level. Weather conditions are quite variable, from sunny and hot to possible thunderstorms.
Meet the ranger at 4:30 pm at the Colorado Welcome Center at 928 E. Main, Cortez, Colorado (on the corner of Mildred and Main.)
