Tour Description

Yucca House National Monument is located 8 miles south of Cortez, Colorado. The large, unexcavated pueblo was probably built around AD1200. The massive building and central location in the Montezuma Valley suggest that it was an important village. Yucca House has limited on-site parking, so tour participants will meet at the Colorado Welcome Center in Cortez and carpool to the site. A brief orientation will precede the tour.

This easy to moderate 1-hour, 1/2-mile (0.8 km) walk is along a mostly level, unpaved path. The trail is rocky in places; wear sturdy hiking shoes or boots. There is no shade on the trail; wear a hat and sun protection, and bring at least 1 quart (1 liter) of water person. Meet the ranger at 4:30pm at the Colorado Welcome Center at 928 E. Main, Cortez, Colorado (on the corner of Mildred and Main.)

The Yucca House tour is available on Wednesdays and Fridays, May 14 & 16 and September 10 & 19.
