Notice:

This tour will cover the first 3/4 mile of the Historic and Violet City Lantern tours. You will enter and exit the natural entrance. This is a night tour; bring a flashlight to return to the parking lot, hotel or campground.

Low light. No flash photography.

There is a steep hill and nearly 70 stairs leading into the cave entrance.

MUST BE AT LEAST 6 YRS. OF AGE TO PARTICIPATE ON THIS TOUR.

Ticket Ages: Youth - Ages 6 - 12, Adult - Ages 13 & Over, Interagency Senior - 62 & over, Interagency Access - no age requirement. Interagency Annual Pass is NOT accepted for cave tours.

Any youth under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older, on all tours.

Will Call Pickup: 30 Minutes Prior to Tour Time

Not recommended for those with medical conditions prohibiting physical exertion. Evacuation from the cave to a hospital for medical attention could take several hours.

Tour Description

See the cave by lantern light as it was seen by Ralph Waldo Emerson and Jenny Lind and other 19th century notables. Follow the passageway taken daily by Dr. John Croghan as he tended consumptive patients in his "hospital" 160 feet underground.
