Cape Cod National Seashore is located in eastern Massachusetts. The park offers forty miles of pristine sandy beach, marshes, ponds and uplands that support diverse species. Lighthouses, cultural landscapes and wild cranberry bogs offer a glimpse of Cape Cod's past and continuing ways of life. Six swimming beaches, twelve walking trails and three bike trails beckon today's visitors. In addition to programs reserved through, from spring through fall, the park offers programs, such as: historic house tours, nature walks, canoe trips, long hikes, lighthouse and lifesaving programs, lectures and performances.

Two ranger-guided programs are available through this reservation system:
  • Yoga on the Beach, Fridays in July and August, 7:30-9:00 a.m., moderately strenuous
  • Hike: The Road Less Traveled, different hikes every Saturday in July and August, 9:00 a.m., 3 hours, 6 miles, strenuous
There are dozens of other ranger-guided programs offered from spring through fall that are described at Ranger-guided activities.

Reservations may be made no more than one week in advance, beginning at 10 a.m. Groups of more than eight people may not register.

Programs may be cancelled due to extreme heat or humidity, or if there is thunder or lightning or other hazardous conditions.

Refunds will be granted if the ranger must cancel the program due to extreme heat or humidity, electrical storms, or other hazardous conditions.

Know Before You Go:

  • There are two visitor centers that offer movies, exhibits, book and gift stores and staff to assist with trip planning. Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham is open year-round. Province Lands Visitor Center in Provincetown is open from May through October. Check at visitor centers for current information and a ranger-guided program schedule.

  • Food, gasoline, groceries, campgrounds and lodging are available in nearby towns.
  • Pets must be leashed at all times. They are not permitted on tours, or in buildings, or on trails. During the summer, when lifeguards are on duty, leashed pets may be walked through lifeguard-protected areas to reach walking areas beyond. In some locations, seasonal pet restrictions may apply and are posted.
  • Beaches have lifeguards on duty from late June through early September (Labor Day).

Getting There:

Cape Cod National Seashore is located along US 6 in eastern Massachusetts, approximately 100 miles from Boston, MA and Providence, RI. Limited bus service is available from these cities to Cape Cod. Rental cars are available at servicing airports (Logan in Boston and TF Green in Warwick, RI). The park is located in the towns of Chatham, Orleans, Eastham, Wellfleet, Truro, and Provincetown, MA.
