Overview:Explore up to ten miles of the incredible Mammoth Cave, the world's longest cave system and a World Heritage Site. It boasts 390 miles of explored caves and more that's yet to be mapped.
Walking tours of the caverns leave from the visitor center daily. Tours last anywhere from one to six hours and range from well-lit walkways to rugged, pitch dark paths that require a paraffin lamp.
Mammoth Cave National Park preserves the cave system and a part of the Green River valley and hill country of south central Kentucky. Early guide Stephen Bishop called the cave a "grand, gloomy and peculiar place," but its vast chambers and complex labyrinths have earned it the name Mammoth.
Visitors have toured the cave's wonders since 1816. Today, the Mammoth Cave Visitor Center offers an array of tours, allowing for new and unique repeat visits. Tours range from easy to difficult, and visitors are encouraged to consider their fitness leves before selecting a tour.
Each tour is fascinating in its own way and and shows off the various sections of the caverns. Tour highlights include the Rainbow Dome, the Snowball Room, Crystal Lake and the Bottomless Pit. Click here for detailed descriptions of each cave tour.
