Overview

This semi-remote campground on Canton Creek is off the beaten path . The nine campsite recreation area has a water system and vault toilets. A number of waterplay areas are located close to Scaredman on Canton Creek. The site is popular during the fall hunting season. Even though fishing is closed on Canton Creek and all Steamboat drainages, the North Umpqua River, 3.5 miles downstream, offers fishing opportunities for fly-fishermen looking for steelhead or salmon. Scaredman was named by early hunters who camped in the area and were frightened by the abundance of wolves in the area at the time.
