Johnson Pass North Trailhead does not offer reservations through Recreation.gov. Please take a look at the area details below for more information about visiting this location. Enjoy your visit!
This trailhead offers ample parking along the long driveway into the trailhead at milepost 64 of the Seward Highway. Please do not park in the turnaround nearest the outhouse as trailered rigs use this space to turn their vehicle around.
Snowmobile access is through the open gate leaving from the turnaround and follows a well-beaten in path to the south known as the “Wagon Road.” Riders have several different options of areas to explore from this trailhead.
Connect to the Iditarod National Historic (INHT): Snowmobile Trail and ride ~7 miles north and into the heart of Turnagain Pass or cross Center and Divide creek following a still active mining road into Lynx Creek. The Wagon Road will eventually tie back into the Johnson Pass (summer) hiking trail and lead riders to Bench Lake and Johnson Pass proper. Follow this route ~23 miles to the Johnson Pass South trailhead on the Seward Ranger District.
