Overview

Parking to access the Placer River valley can be limited.  Two small parking areas exist at MP 77 of the Seward Highway.  A third larger parking area at Ingram Creek (MP 75) is used as overflow on busy days.

There are no designated “snowmobile trails” in the Placer River Valley and travel up valley usually follows the river (if frozen) or the west side of the Valley close to the toe of the slope.  Placer is truly a "choose your own adventure" zone with something for everyone.  Big climbs into alpine and glaciated areas such as “squirrel flats” or Skookum Glacier will challenge the most experienced riders while Spencer Lake make for an easy and fun day trip providing riders incredible views of the Spencer Glacier and surrounding Kenai mountains.  Several permitted outfitter/ guide businesses based in Girdwood provide guided snowmobile tours in this area as well!

Be mindful of cross-country skiers and fat tire bikers sharing snowmobile tracks en route to the Lake, particularly in the spring months.
